PARKPUNK (D)

Who would ever come up with such a ridiculous idea that a band called PARKPUNK is actually not that bad and plays truly captivating, classically influenced, yet contemporary German punk? Of course, no one. But it’s true, and it’s worth risking an ear. Because PARKPUNK manages, in their own unique way, through clever punk rock and double-edged lyrics, not only to hold a mirror up to society but also to the scene, while keeping people in a beer-drinking mood. They don’t reinvent German punk, nor do they stick closely to any particular idols. PARKPUNK just lets things flow, doesn’t care about frills like guitar solos or long-winded stage banter, and are happy to take a stand— especially against Nazis. As they get older, they become more politically specific in their lyrics, but they still don’t lose their love for classic drinking songs and quirky personal anecdotes. In the end, the music has so much charm that you can only love it or hate it. Just like PARKPUNK: a pun as subtle as a crash barrier!
