PSYCHOTIC YOUTH (SWE)
Diese schwedische Kultband verbreitet im 37. Jahr ihre eigene patentierte Power-Pop-Surf-Punk-Garage.
Sänger, Songwriter und Gitarrist Jörgen Westman gründete die Band 1985 inmitten der sich ausdehnenden schwedischen Garagenrock Szene, und Psychotic Youth wurden so gleich von Radium Records unter Vertrag genommen. Heraus kam das 1989 veröffentlichte Album „Some Fun“, das binnen kürzester Zeit als DAS Album gekürt, was je in diesem Genre produziert wurde. Die Beach Boys würden neidisch werden aufgrund der großartigen Harmonien und Stimmen, die dieses Stück Pop History hervorgebracht hat. Weitere Alben („Be In The Sun“, „Juice“, „Pop“ , “ Bamboozle“, „Stereoids“) folgten und Psychotic Youth stieg in den Poppunk Himmel empor und beeinflusste von nun an viele weitere neu gegründete Bands dieses Musikgenres.
Ende der 1990er wurde es ruhig um die Band. Der King of Power Pop himself – Mr Paul Collins, reanimierte die Band 2015.
Und seitdem sind sie aktiver denn je, veröffentlichen Album um Album. Während der Pandemie kamen 6 Alben und 2 Eps dazu, von denen letzteres „New Wonders“ aktuell auf dem deutschen Label Wolverine Records herausgebracht wurde – eine Sammlung der besten Songs von 1996-2021 und mit einem Bonus bestehend aus 4 ABBA-Covern! Und endlich kommen sie mit ihrem zuckersüßen Powerpop zurück nach Deutschland. Hochmelodischer Poppunk auf Speed, MIAUUUU!
